Welcome to Lewis & Clark Quest
The Lewis & Clark Quest was born over cigars and wild ideas. Jason Lee, a successful Portland entrepreneur and owner of Broadway Cigar — a place where adventures are as common as handshakes — dreamed of something bigger than another business deal. He wanted to step into history itself. Partnering with Matt Marx of Dreams Adrift, a craftsman of real-world adventures, Jason set plans in motion for their first expedition: a handcrafted log raft journey from Lewiston, Idaho to the Pacific, retracing the epic voyage of Lewis and Clark.
This isn't a reenactment. It's a raw plunge into wild waters, old maps, and the beating heart of the American frontier.
Adventure. Heritage. History.
Where History Meets the Horizon
We don’t do tours. We craft legends.
At Lewis & Clark Quest, we design once-in-a-lifetime journeys that bring the Pacific Northwest to life—not from behind a car window, but from the river, the forest floor, the wind itself. Our first experience: a handcrafted log raft expedition retracing the route of Lewis and Clark, from Lewiston, Idaho to the Pacific Ocean. Real logs. Real currents. Real wild.
This isn’t just travel. It’s time travel.
Our Adventures
The Lewis & Clark Log Raft Expedition
Step aboard a 30' x 60' log raft built in the tradition of frontier river men. Float the same winding path the Corps of Discovery took more than 200 years ago, through rugged canyons, tribal lands, and roaring river bends. Sleep under the stars, fish for dinner, and feel history move beneath you.
Why We Exist
Because we believe the Pacific Northwest is best understood from inside the elements. Not conquered—but traveled with reverence. Every Wild Current journey is rooted in heritage, shaped by terrain, and told through the stories that built this land—from Indigenous knowledge to pioneer grit to modern-day adventurers ready to feel something real.
About the Dreams Adrift Adventure
Our First Adventure: Retracing Lewis & Clark’s Route—One Log at a Time
About the Expedition
Two dreamers, one log raft, and a historic river route.
We’re Matt and Melanie, a husband and wife team with a love for adventure and history. Inspired by the legendary journey of Lewis and Clark, we’re setting out to build a 30-foot by 60-foot log raft and drift westward from Lewiston, Idaho, to the Pacific Ocean. Over hundreds of miles, we’ll navigate the currents, face the elements, and experience the land as the explorers did over 200 years ago—at the river’s pace.
Why We’re Doing This
In an age of speed and convenience, we want to slow down and connect—with history, nature, and the river itself. Our journey is about discovery, resilience, and the untamed beauty of the American Northwest. By traveling on a handcrafted raft, we aim to experience the Columbia and Snake Rivers as they were seen by Lewis and Clark: wild, unpredictable, and awe-inspiring.
The Raft
Built from logs sourced responsibly from local forests, our raft is designed to be sturdy, maneuverable, and true to the spirit of frontier exploration. With a basic shelter for protection and the essentials for survival, we’ll be living off-grid, fishing for meals, and navigating using historical maps and modern tools.
The Route
Starting in Lewiston, Idaho, we’ll follow the Snake River westward, merging with the Columbia River and continuing toward the Pacific Ocean. Along the way, we’ll pass through:
:: Hells Canyon: The deepest river gorge in North America.
:: The Columbia Plateau: Windswept landscapes and historic tribal lands.
:: The Dalles: A historic gathering place for Indigenous trade and travel.
:: Astoria, Oregon: Where Lewis and Clark’s journey met the Pacific.
